Brevard Public Schools
On November 8, 2022, registered voters in the Brevard Public School District who live in School Board District 2 will vote to choose their representative on the Board. District 2 residents will choose between Gene Trent and Erin Dunne.
District 2 CANDIDATES
Gene Trent is a father of 5. Trent was previously a math teacher and currently works in the Brevard school system.
Trent is a registered Republican.
Among his positions, Trent notes that he supports protecting parental rights in education and school choice. He does not support teaching Critical Race Theory.
Trent is endorsed by Moms for Liberty and 321 Families, a pro-parent group based in Brevard.
Trent does not support distance learning or mask mandates.
Erin Dunne is a mother and elementary school music teacher.
Dunne is a registered Democrat and has voted in Democratic primary elections.
Dunne has passionately opposed The Parental Rights in Education Act which prohibits classroom instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity in K-3 classrooms. She has called the bill terrifying and cowardly and accused the bill of “trying to erase an entire community of people.”
Dunne has spoken out against efforts to have books removed from school libraries.
